Wanda Sykes talked to Stephen Colbert about her wife Alex, their children, and her Netflix special Not Normal
by Nathan'ette Burdine: June 4, 2019

Wanda Sykes stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (LSSC) to chit-chat for a bit.

The comedienne talked about her wife Alex, the French, her Netflix special Not Normal, and she and Alex’s children.

Like all married folks who have wives, Wanda Sykes has to do what the wife says. Because, well you know, “happy wife, happy life.”

Stephen Colbert is in the same boat. That’s why he can’t get that Harley he so desperately wants because the wife forbids it. Those wives. I tell ya.’

Husbands are easier. You feed them, shelter them, and give them their shots and they’re good to go. They don’t give you any back talk or nothing. They’re very mannerable and just good to have around. Wives, unh-unh! That’s why I have nothing but respect for brave people like Wanda Sykes and Stephen Colbert who have the courage to have wives because you have to be a tough person to have one of them.

"I married a girl from there (South Carolina) so we don’t debate
where we go."  Colbert told Sykes.

"I married a woman from France so we go to France."  Sykes said
     to Colbert.

     Jeff Larry David Curb Your Enthusiasm;

Youo gotta go where the wife tells you to go. The good thing about Wanda Sykes going to France, though, is she can let her hair down and kick up her feet because the French don’t know who she is. At least, that’s what she says.

It’s only when she begins talking and they hear her American accent that they drum up a conversation: “What it is going on in the U.S.A? What is the problem?”

And that’s okay. Because like the rest of us living beings who have brains enough to think beyond the point we’ve been told to think, the French recognize that things are not normal; which Sykes talks about in her Netflix special Not Normal.

"Explain what that means to you. What does not normal mean to
     you?" Colbert asked Sykes.

"Well, it’s not normal what’s going on in the country." Sykes
     responded.

"I agree.  We’re on the same page with that." Colbert said.

"Yeah, I’ve seen your work…It’s not normal that I know that I’m
smarter than the president. That ain’t right." Sykes told
      Colbert.

She’s right that it’s not normal we have a septuagenarian, who’s been bailed out of debt more than a career criminal’s been bailed out of jail, to be running the country.  It ain’t normal that a man who can’t balance pennies, nickels, and dimes has been given a chance to balance the country’s dollars, silver, and gold.

I mean, Street Corner Donald asks the American people to bail him out financially and now he’s going to balance the American people’s money that he needs to bail him out of his financial mess. That there is like a bank promoting an employee, who has several outstanding loans with the bank, to the position of chief loan officer. That ain’t normal.

Something that is normal are children paying no never mind to what their parents do for a living in order to provide them with all of those gidget gadgets they like.

Wanda Sykes children, who are 10-years old, think the YouTube stars on the computer are funnier than mama is on the TV.

Alex, on the other hand, doesn't mind watching Wanda Sykes on the YouTube, the TV, or in person on stage because it gives Alex a chance to jot down notes about what jokes work and which one's don't. And if the jokes aren't hitting the funny bone, then Alex helps Wanda Sykes out by telling her what jokes to tell.  Sykes only runs into trouble whenever she takes her wife’s jokes just a little too far; which leads to Sykes getting herself out of the doghouse the only way folks who have wives know how, and that is by buying jewelry.

Now, the funny thing about all of this is that a person would think that a former NSA employee like Ms. Sykes would use some of those counter intelligence skills she acquired in order to get herself out of the doghouse.

But then again, those counter intelligence skills Sykes acquired while working with the NSA are no match for the mind of a woman. The mind of a woman and her intuition are the two things that neither the CIA or MI6 can break.

Those wives, hmm. They're not normal.
